Our charge was to present a specific case-study of how an advertiser has successfully used a type of mobility program. I and ENVY publication's managing editor Jody Schmal presented how Envy has used a permission based group build to better connect with their audience. Envy put this call to action on all mar-com materials, in the mag, on myspace, online, at POS at events, on the Envy girls backs...
And Envy sends only Relevant - Interesting - Helpful information, so the group stays opted-in and trusts that Envy will not spam them.
Envy uses sms text to put their arms more tightly around their audience - has built trust - and now has thousands of readers waiting to hear from them. This is a great example of a successful sms text program.
It is interesting how themes emerge within programs; at qtags we are seeing that advertisers are using keyword text to shortcode in:
Recruiting [Verizon / Accenture / various police departments / Fidelity Investments / American Family Insurance / West Business Services / Red Robin]
This makes sense because if you have captured the interest of a potential applicant, they likely are not near a phone or a computer and as the advertiser, you need to offer a way for the applicant to bookmark your position and/or job fair information
Hospitality (Ritz Carlton / Wyndham / Red Robin / California Tortilla ]
This makes sense because the advertiser can lots of competition and wants to use any means possible to provide a differentiation; via a promotion, special rate, unique services - and sms text is a good way to communicate that differentiation
Community Building [ENVY / Communities in Schools / Whiteblox]
This makes sense because certain advertisers have extremely vested audiences who want to know when events are planned or help / support is needed. Sending out short sms text alets is a good way to send that information and break through clutter.
