In a story today on Houston's local abc affiliate, texting is described as an extra-long umbilical cord between a parent and a teen. It's a way for parents to keep in touch with teens throughout the day, pinpoint locations, confirm pickup times and schedule events.
And, maybe more importantly, the Mom featured in the story described being able to text with her teen as given her instant gratification, and satisfying that basic 'need to talk to my kid' feeling.
I think that instant gratification and satisfaction is why we all text. Quick burst of information and a topic can be handled.
And I love the umbilical cord analogy. Advertiser's can leverage that deliverable using qtags. Make it easy to stay connected - don't let them cut the cord!
